Understanding the Implications of Emarat Tax in the UAE: A Guide for Businesses and Individuals

What is the meaning of Emara Tax UAE platform

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a new platform called EmaraTax aimed at enhancing the way taxpayers access the authority’s services. The taxable entities are required to move from the current FTA portal to EmaraTax as all services will only be available through this platform. VAT professionals at VAT Centric can help taxpayers in the transition process.

It is crucial for businesses to understand the features and capabilities of the EmaraTax platform as all services provided by the FTA can only be accessed through this platform. Here are some of the key features of the EmaraTax platform:

The benefit of the EmaraTax Platform

The FTA has created EmaraTax after thorough analysis and consultation to become a leading digital tax administration in line with the UAE’s national digital plan. EmaraTax will allow the FTA to ensure effective tax administration, prompt decision-making, and earlier engagement with taxpayers who require assistance. However, the primary objective of EmaraTax is to help taxable persons comply with taxes efficiently in the UAE.

Services Available on the EmaraTax Platform As per the FTA, the EmaraTax platform offers online access to 119 tax services in the UAE, which is 84 more services than the current FTA portal. Tax services such as tax registration, deregistration, tax return filing, payments, and refunds can be accessed through EmaraTax. Tax agents in Dubai can provide further information on the available services.

EmaraTax login and password reset

Taxpayers who already have an account with the FTA will have their details transferred to EmaraTax, but they will need to reset their passwords when logging in for the first time. Those who have an FTA login, can log into their existing FTA accounts and have access to their registered email will receive an email with password reset instructions.

Taxpayers who can log into their existing FTA account but do not have access to their registered email can reset their password using an alternative process that will be updated by the FTA soon. Those without an FTA account can easily set up a new EmaraTax account to access necessary FTA online services.

Submitting VAT Returns on EmaraTax

Taxpayers are instructed to continue submitting tax returns and making payments as usual, and the FTA will communicate any updates through its social media channels or email. Tax consultants in Dubai can inform taxpayers of any important developments related to tax returns or payments from the FTA.

Generating a Unique Payment Reference Number for GIBAN Payments Taxpayers in the UAE must include a unique reference number when making payments using GIBAN to ensure accurate allocation of payments to the selected liabilities. EmaraTax is integrated with UAE banks and financial institutions, and the unique reference number will be used to validate the GIBAN and the payable amount.

Emaratax payment method guide

VAT-registered businesses will now have to make Online Payments using MagnatiPay to fulfill the Emara Tax payment process. This is because the FTA no longer accepts e-Dirham as a payment method, and taxpayers must use the MagnatiPay platform as the payment method to make tax payments in the UAE. MagnatiPay accepts payments made using any Visa or Mastercard prepaid, debit, or credit card. VAT-Centric in the UAE can provide guidance on how to pay taxes using MagnatiPay.

Applying for Tax Refunds on EmaraTax Taxpayers must continue to submit tax refund requests as usual, and EmaraTax will display all relevant information, including pending refund requests. Taxable persons registered for VAT or Excise Tax can submit a consolidated refund request for all eligible credit balances for each tax type for multiple tax periods and submit all supporting evidence along with the claim online.
